2004 Lincoln Aviator? Fair Price?
It had leather interior, dual powered seats, premium seats, running board, roof rack, parking sensors and moon roof. They were asking 15,995, but we were able to get them to 13,500. Do you guys think 13,500 is a fair price for this car. It has 60k miles on it, it’s an 04 Lincoln Aviator.
admin answers:
I definitely think that’s a fair price. My mom has a 2004 Lincoln Aviator but got it in 2004 when it just came out. She paid about $35,000 for it. So they cut the price by more than half. You’re not gonna find a better price for an Aviator, so take that deal!
BTW, it’s a great car! I love it!

How can a Honda CR-V and a Volkswagen Beetle have roughly the same fuel economy?
I have a 1997 Honda CR-V. I get about 26 mpg. It’s rated to get 19/23 city/highway.
A friend of mine has a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. She gets about 27 mpg. It’s rated to get 20/26 city/highway.
How can the difference in fuel economy be so slight?
Her car is utterly MINISCULE compared to mine. I could probably carry more than twice as much in my vehicle. Her car is two-wheel drive, my car is four-wheel drive (albeit “real time” 4WD). My car is a boxy SUV with a large profile and high wind resistance, her car has a small profile. My car even has a larger engine (2.0L vs 1.8L). My car must outweigh hers by a huge margin. I’ve even installed a heavy-duty hitch, roof rack, etc, further increasing weight and wind resistance.
Driving habits can’t account for the gas mileage difference being so small, since even if you ignore the fuel economy each of us achieves personally, the standardized EPA estimates show the difference to be slight too.
What’s up with this?
Benson, I just want to clarify a couple issues you brought up.
Traffic differences aren’t relevant, because the EPA tested these cars via a standardized method to get the fuel economy numbers. They basically use a treadmill for cars, designed specifically to measure fuel economy.
Also, the CR-V does not have a VTEC engine.
Thanks for your answer!
admin answers:
Remember that fuel economy is very dependent on the type of traffic encountered.
So if you’re cruising down a highway you’re fuel economy will be exceptional (as long as you’re not going too fast, most cars’ sweet spot for 4 cylinders are 80kph).
However if you’re in city traffic, all that revving (first gear) and idling will mean that your fuel economy becomes disastrous.
Also the Honda CR-V has a VTEC engine which has a form of Variable Valve Timing. Meaning for lower rpms, the engine is in fuel economy mode. When you rev above 4500rpm the engine becomes more performance oriented.
Also take note that manufacturer claims should only be used as a guide, as the way they drive the cars to get those mpg figures are not the way real world drivers drive. To even come close to those figures you must drive like a granny going to get her weekly shopping.
Hope this helps.

James asks…
damage deposit issue?
here is the situation i am in.
i live in a big new condo (strata) and as i was leaving the underground the gate came down on my vehicle and caused damage to my roof rack. i didnt complain as i did not see it as a big deal as its just my roof rack.
they have now invoiced me for about 1000.00 and say that i broke the gate and i owe them for all the repairs. i have the incident on video and it clearly show the gate malfunctioned and dropped down on my car. the gate is open everyday until 9 pm and then at that time you must use your FOB key to enter the building. i went through at 6:45 pm so the gate had a mechanical time clock error and caused this whole issue. my landlord who owns the unit was billed for the amount and paid it off before getting the facts from me and seeing the video which clearly proves my innocence. she is now trying to withhold my 900.00 damage deposit because of this issue. she also knows it was not my fault as she saw the tape.
what am i to do ? please help. thank you.
can she keep my damage deposit? or is this matter completely seperate from what entitles her to be able to keep my deposit, such as damage that has occurred inside the suite. or is this something she needs to take up with the strata council ?
she owns the unit within the building and i just rent it but have been there for a year and have been a perfect tenant.
she got a bill in the mail from the strata saying she owedd a grand and before even asking me she just paid it. now that we both have seen the video evidence she knows that i am in the clear and i shouldnt be liable. we are taking it up right now with the strata council but i move out today/tomorrow and she is holding back my depost and wants to use that to pay back the grand she spent on the invoice which to me seems like it is not fair. if i were her i would pay back my damage and then we would deal with this incident seperately.
keep in mind i have not done any damage inside the unit whatsoever.
am i entitled to receiveing my deposit back or can she legally hold it to cover her payment she made a few weeks ago , which she shouldnt have done and was a mistake on her part.
thanx
admin answers:
Your deposit covers any damage you do anywhere on the property.
If you have evidence that you were not in the wrong, and she does not return your deposit when you move out, you can sue her for the amount of the deposit.

Should I buy this Subaru Outback? Is this clicking noise a serious problem? (details below)?
“This 2000 Subaru Outback is Priced way under book value at only $4900.Miles are only 79k!!!!1 Owner. The car has been Service and Maintained. Good Tires!, New Brakes all the way around, and Oil change. Interior is in Excellent condition. The car does have some hail damage on hood and minor imperfections on body but nothing too severe. This is an excellent car for the price, again only 79,000 miles! Options includes AM/FM Stereo, CD Player, Child safety locks, Cruise, Pwr. door locks, Pwr windows,Tilt Steering, Roof rack, Alloy wheels, Rear Defrost, Fog Lights, and stick shift transmission. Won’t last long at this great price! The engine does make a tapping noise but it has plenty of pick up/power.Just had the oil done at Jiffy Lube and the guys says it’s a valve noise, nothing major. But just in case for full disclosure we want to make sure you know it may eventually have to have the engine replaced, however it will probably be a long time before it is needed as runs and drive excellent right now. Please no low ballers, we have priced it to sale. “
admin answers:
I have owned Subarus since the 1970s and can tell you that you will sometimes find one that has the tapping noise. It mainly happens when the car is cold and generally goes away once it is warmed up. Keep it maintained, keep the oil changed, maybe even switch to a higher grade fuel on occasion. Really, it is nothing to be alarmed about.
