jubilee clip to secure a roof rack?
I dont have the original clips to hold my roof rack to my car.
so could i just strap some jubilee clips on it from the roof rack to the bars…are the jubilee clips strong enough?
admin answers:
It would be classed as an unsecure load, jubilee clips will vibrate loose and the end result, well not good. The police would also frown upon this and i would expect at least a heafty fine and possible points. Hope this helps

Thomas asks…
Why are kayaks placed cockpit facing out on roof racks? ?
We are traveling 2500 miles and those two big sails on top of the car are killing the gas mileage. We tried cockpit covers but they do not stay on at highway speeds. We thought about turning them around so cocpits face in but we can’t seem to find any info on why they are always instructed to face out. Is it okay to face them in on a j-rack and the “stacker” type?
admin answers:
Don’t see why not – the other way is to tie them “reverse” – so the rear end faces the front of the car (smaller area for wind resistance)

Can you just strap a large suitcase to the roof of a car with car clips, lashing straps and a non-skid pad?
Do you have to have a car-top carrier or a luggage rack?
admin answers:
You can. But if it comes adrift at speed and goes through the windscreen of the car behind causing serious injury then you are in deep sh1t. Not a smart idea.

I need to strap my surfboard to the roof of my car?
I have an 8′ softop longboard. I am going on a road trip, and want to strap it to the roof of the minivan we are going in. they have a luggage rack. I know how to strap it on, I just don’t know where to get these straps.
I’ve heard they have them at Wal Mart. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get good, reliable straps cheap? I need them within 4 days. thanks
admin answers:
If they have luggage racks that go across the roof (as appose to a back to front setup) then a ratchet operated strap works well (like this http://www.uscargocontrol.com/Ratchet-Straps-Tie-Downs) I use one of these for the front and then a few bungee cords to hold down the back. If you only have front to back racks then that makes it hard because you will have to run the strap inside the car. Or you can get soft roof racks like these http://www.amazon.com/SURREAL-SESSIONS-Double-Multi-Surfboard/dp/B002ZPYESM As a note make absolutely sure that it is tied down well because not only will you probably loose your board to damages if it comes off but you can put other drivers lives and vehicles at risk.

Is putting luggage over car in California allowed?
Can I put luggage and securely bind it with a rope over a car that is equipped with proper roof luggage racks? I don’t have a car top luggage box. Thanks
admin answers:
Sure. People do it all the time. Just be sure it’s good and secure for when you’re flying down the freeway at 70mph.
